Caring for yourself while you care for a parent
Burnout is common and not a failure. Here's how families build in breaks.

One in five adults is caring for an older relative. Many do it while working and raising children of their own. Exhaustion isn't a sign you're doing it wrong.
Schedule respite before you need it
A regular four-hour break each week is easier to arrange — and more effective — than an emergency week off once you're at breaking point.
Share the load
Make a list of tasks and let siblings, friends or neighbours pick what they can do, even from afar: paying bills, ordering groceries, weekly calls.
Find your people
Caregiver support groups, in person or online, are full of people who get it. Our monthly family evening is open to everyone.
